The ECOESC Department of Prevention and Student Supports, formerly known as Belmont County Student Services (Student Services), provides school and community-based prevention and early intervention programs in Belmont and Monroe Counties. Student Services is recognized in Belmont and Monroe Counties as a leader in providing sound, effective, and evidence-based substance use prevention and mental health promotion programs that target students in grades K-12, as well as their families and the community as a whole.

The history of Student Services dates back to 1981 when local school superintendents applied for and received a truancy prevention grant. Since that time, Student Services has grown and morphed into the comprehensive prevention and early intervention program it is today.

All prevention services are intentionally designed to reduce risk or promote health before the onset of a disorder. The services are all population-focused and targeted to specific levels of risk (Universal, Selected, or Indicated) using all six evidence-based strategies identified by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), which include:

  • Prevention Education
  • Environmental
  • Information Dissemination
  • Community-Based Process
